Hold my Hand

December 03, 2021

You’re hard to love, but I’ll embrace you forever nonetheless.

It's 6 o'clock in the morning, and you’re grumpy as ever. You lie in bed for a couple of minutes wondering why you still have to “seize the day!” with the widest beam on your face when you could just take a break and hate yourself for wanting to get paid as a couch potato.

Your reflection in the mirror makes you sigh your frustrations away because you thought you’re having a staring contest with the ugliest ogre in the world (no offense,  Shrek and Fiona, you’re not ugly). You loathe your cooking skills (pfffft), you thought even the dog wouldn’t eat it. You listen to the same rounds of 3 songs over and over again the whole day as if it’s the only playlist made in the world. You talk to yourself as if you are in a top-secret conference (with the facial expression, tone, and stuff that is funny to watch). You watch horror films but you can’t turn the lights off at night (why, though? I thought you’re brave?) What else is left to be mentioned? Oh! And when you laugh, you snort (like that of a pig!)

But you know what? There’s someone who loves you nevertheless. He created the universe, the mysterious body of ocean and earth, and even the intricate weaving of human anatomy. He formed you in his image, through breathing you to life from dust. He watches you 24/7 with utmost attention, listens to you well, he even knows you by name. Imagine, the God of heaven and earth calling you, a mere creation that can vanish into existence, is known by him, and is even calling you by name! Now, do you still think you’re ugly after being loved by the ever omnipresent and omniscient God? You may, you may not.

Let me tell you this. Nothing you can think of, nothing you could do, could make him love you any less because that’s how unconditional his affection for you. And it won’t be changing anytime soon. Not today, not tomorrow, or ever.

If he cares for you that much, well, I love you, too! Your flaws, it’s what makes you perfectly imperfect. It’s what makes you unique and extraordinary. So, please stop hating yourself, yes? You’re loved, you’re cared for, you’re looked after, and you’re you. Nothing, no one, can be the same as you like a fingerprint that is distinctive.

I love you. And most especially, God loves you.

Zephaniah 3:17 - The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

PS: If you’re loving someone who doesn’t feel the same way towards you (maybe he/she only thinks of you as a friend, or he/she is feeling the same way but is not ready for a commitment yet, or is head over heels for someone else….) then you probably should let go of that person (unless given an assurance).  Take care of yourself first. Maybe, you’re not yet in the right shape to be committed, or that person you’ve fallen for was not the right one for you.

^ this little post note could be our subject for next time’s “Dear You” letter *wink *wink
